Description
Fine Chinese White Jade Covered Vase on Stand 9.5''x4''. Exquisite lobed melon form, carved with figural dragonfly and ring handles. Finely carved finial with relief bat and cloud motif. Well hollowed form measuring 8.5'' tall without stand. Carved fitted rosewood stand (damaged). It has a 1'' chip repair to the top edge of body. Also a .25'' flake chip to top exterior edge of body. One small design flake to finial and top edge of body as well. Piece was damaged in the 2014 Napa Valley earthquake. Comes in green fitted silk S. Bernstein & Co. box. An identical form can be found in the Palace Museum, Beijing and published in Zhonguo meishu fenlei quanji (Chinese Art Series: Chinese Jades, Volume 6, Qing) 1991 on page 141. Former American Collection, Philadelphia. Private collection of Samuel Bernstein of S. Bernstein & Co., San Francisco. 18th century Qianlong, Qing dynasty.
